The simple guide to setting (and keeping) your intentions.

"We either live with intention or exist by default." — Kristin Armstrong

Setting an intention and outlining how to actually implement is a powerful, and often overlooked, step in creating a life you love. While a lot of people do set their intentions when manifesting, I notice the step missed is creating a plan to implement.

You see, when you begin to actively create a life you love and you have changes you want to make in your life, you have to also change the habits and behaviors that brought you to where you are now.

Our external reality is shaped by our perceptions and the way we react to the events that happen around us. Our reactions come from what state we are in, in other words, the identity we hold of ourselves. For example, someone who identifies as extremely fit isn't likely to spend 5 days in a row not moving their body in some way. Someone who identifies as a smoker isn't likely to go a week without thinking of having a cigarette. Someone who identifies as always left out of everything and unliked is likely to not go to networking events.

These perceptions also affect the way you accept what is happening in your external life. We could both go to the same event, sit right next to each other, and listen to the same speaker but walk away with two completely different understandings of what they shared. For example, if two people listened to Tony Robbins give a speech on how you can change your life and make great improvements to the way you live even though you may hit some bumps in the road, they could each hear something different. Person A could focus on the fact that you can improve your life! And person B could focus on the fact that you may hit bumps.

These differences in perception can and will affect how they react to those so-called bumps. Person A may hit a bump and think, 'no big deal, these are bond to happen but I will continue on.' Person B may hit a bump and think, 'I am giving up, nothing ever works for me.' And that is a big key to manifestation - persistence. I will get into that more in another blog post.

Below is an overview of the simple steps to set your intentions, I also have a journal available for purchase to guide you through this process.

So, now that we have an understanding of that, let's list the ways to set a new intention.

3 simple steps to setting intentions

  1. Know what you want. Seems simple, right? But the first step is knowing what it is you want and what the life of that person would look like.
    1. Let's say you want to manifest a specific person into your life so your desired outcome to is to be in a loving relationship and go to bed feeling content and desired - ask yourself how that version of you would spend their day.
    2. What would they do with their time?
    3. Do the things you do now align with that version? The more you understand what it is you want and what they would look and feel like for you, the better.
  2. Create an implementation plan. Ok, you know what you want and how that would look. And now you should decide how you will get there. Take a moment and write out the habits your ideal self would have and then write out how you will start to implement these into your life.
    1. For example, you want to further your career and get your dream job. A habit you'd like to add into your day is making time for additional learning. You would actually make a plan for when and how you will do that - it could look something like this: every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday morning from 6:30-7am I will take my online training class. Every evening at 8pm I will read 10 pages of an educational book.
  3. Review your plan. The more you plan and review your plan the better - keep it somewhere you can easily see it, spend time each morning reviewing your plan and creating the space in your day to implement it. Every evening sit down for 10 minutes and look ahead to tomorrow and create your plan. Ask yourself, how can I show up tomorrow as my best self? Schedule time once per week to look ahead at your schedule and create a plan for the week. It doesn't have to complicated but research shows that the more you have a plan, the more likely you are to succeed.
