The Truth Shall Set You Free

Neville Goddard teaches that our consciousness creates reality. The truth that even though something may seem very real, it is only real in the way you are experiencing it and every 'truth' we accept from our physical senses can be changed.

The Law of Assumption

"The truth that sets man free is the knowledge that his consciousness is the resurrection and the life, that his consciousness both resurrects and makes alive all that he is conscious of being.." — Neville Goddard

I have always wanted to believe this, I wanted to believe we had some control over our destiny, that we could choose what we experience in this life. I come with a hope and that hope kept me coming back to the teachings even when I struggled to get them to work in my life on a consistent basis. I can also now say that I firmly have that belief.

My faith was built by leaning into trusting my own instincts, going ahead with the things that work for me, and honestly (even when it feels cheesy) from building up my own feelings of self worth, self love, and self care. I am still learning and still test all the time but the faith is there.

In Chapter 3 of Neville's Your Faith is Your Fortune, Neville shares this:

The truth that sets man free is the knowledge that his consciousness is the resurrection and the life, that his consciousness both resurrects and makes alive all that he is conscious of being.

Apart from consciousness, there is neither resurrection nor life.

When man gives up his belief in a God apart from himself and begins to recognize his awareness of being to be God, as did Jesus and the prophets, he will transform his world with the realization, “I and My Father are one” [John 10:30], but “My Father is greater than I” [John 14:28].

Your I AM is your state of just being. No matter what conditions you place upon yourself you will always be aware of being. The I AM is you without any conditions. Now, your Father is greater than you because your I AM does not change and it brings forth what conditions you place upon yourself.

These conditions come from your beliefs, your identity, the states you dwell in - all the things that make you you are the conditions you have placed on your I AM. These conditions come from our upbringing, from our tribe/family, from the beliefs that are passing down to us, and the experiences we have in life. The conditions are part of our perceptions and each of us holds our own perceptions.

But the beautiful truth is, these can change. Think back 10, 15, 20 years ago to your life - what conditions and feelings about yourself has changed in that time? It can be for the better or the worse but they have changed.

Neville also writes;

My consciousness is the Father who draws the manifestation of life to me. The nature of the manifestation is determined by the state of consciousness in which I dwell. I am always drawing into my world that which I am conscious of being.

Your consciousness of being, your I AM is the Father - God, the universe, the source - there are many names but we all come from this I AM. Completely free of any conditions or limitations in life.

To make change to your life you begin by looking at the conditions you have placed on yourself - ask yourself, 'what no longer serves me?'

Before I close, I want to add a special note that just because our consciousness creates reality, it does not mean that you (or anyone) consciously chose to bring traumatic or hurtful events into life. My opinion on this is that yes, bad and hurtful things do happen and I do not understand why or how everything works, but I do know that self forgiveness and working through hurtful events is an act of self love, not a denial of the law.
